2007 Chevrolet Tahoe - H11 HID Conversion Kit

Step 1: Once you have the headlight out, disconnect the wiring harness and remove the bulb labeled H11.

Step 2: The HID kit needs a direct power source from the battery. The best source for this is the power distribution block on the firewall. This location gives enough length for the harness to reach the driver’s side ballast and starter. Hook the power cable of the kit on the power distribution block as shown in the picture below and then run the power line along the factory wiring harness as shown and use the provided ties straps to secure the power cord to the factory wiring harness. Once you have the HID power wiring secured to the factory harness and have plenty of slack to secure the ballast where you want it, you can remove the nut securing the battery cable that is coming from the battery. Snip the ring of the HID power line in the center and spread the ring just enough to fit over the bolt for the distribution block. Replace the nut once you have snipped and attached both power lines to the distribution block.

Step 3: Run the power line along the firewall and behind the large fuse box as shown in the picture below. The metal plate in between the fuse box and rear of the headlight provides a good spot to mount the ballast unit using the supplied adhesive pad. You will need to remove the middle bolt in the 3 bolt pattern closest to the fender. This bolt is an additional bolt that supports the washer fluid tank and is not required to be in place. See the picture below for mounting location. In the picture, note that any of the bolts on the plate can be used to ground the HID harness.

Step 4: With the ballast mounted and in place, pull the igniter/starter through the gap in the rubber flap at the back of the headlight unit and use a zip tie to mount it using the small hole on the cross support as shown below. Also pull the female plug from the HID unit to the factory harness through the gap in the rubber flap at this time.

Step 5: Test fit the HID bulb into the headlight unit. DO NOT TOUCH THE “BULB” PORTION WITH YOUR FINGERS. It may be necessary to trim the largest of the three tabs on the HID bulb just slightly. If so, use the razor blade to cut out thin slices on each side of the tab until it will fit in the socket. Plug the HID harness into the HID bulb as well as the factory H11 male harness into the female plug from the HID kit. You may need to adjust the prongs in the female plug of the HID kit to be closer together. Look at the factory plug to estimate the width and use a small flathead screw driver to slightly bend the prongs into place.
Step 11: Replace the headlight the same way you took it out. It seems to go in much easier than it came out. Don’t forget to reconnect the wiring harness and make sure the headlight mounting tab that sits behind the bumper is on the outside of the metal bracket where the bolt goes in (as shown in the picture for Step 3)!

Step 6: Repeat steps 2-7 to remove the headlight unit for the passenger side.

Step 7: Run the HID harness wiring from the power distribution block behind the battery and along the fender, in between the radiator overflow tank and the air box and then under the intake tube and around to the front of the air box. This keeps the power wire pretty well hidden.
Step 8: Remove the two push pins holding the rubber flap to the radiator support as shown below and then fold the flap forward into the empty area where the headlight unit was. This should provide enough working room to tie down the ballast.

Step 9: Using 2 zip ties doubled up. Tie the ballast down to the metal cross bar just under the air box as shown below.

Step 10: Place the igniter on the outside of the rubber mat and using another zip tie, secure the igniter on one side and the harness relay on the back side using the same small hole in the cross member.

I suggest testing the lights before you put the 3 10mm headlight bolts back in. (the same ones you took out in step 4). Put everything back together in reverse order.
You’re almost Done.
Step 11: The 2007 Tahoe has a feature that will briefly turn on the headlamps at night when the door is unlocked using the remote key and then shut them off and turn them back on when you start the vehicle. This power cycling is not good for the HID ballasts and may cause them to fail prematurely. In order to turn this feature off please see page 280 of your owner’s manual re: “DIC Vehicle Customization”. The feature that you need to adjust is the “Approach Lighting” on page 285 of the owner’s manual. Turn this feature off so that the headlamps will not turn on when you unlock the door with the remote transmitter. With this feature off, the turn indicators, tail lights and interior lights will still turn on when you unlock the door at night.
