INSTALLING AN XTREME MOTORCYCLE HID CONVERSION KIT FROM XENONDEPOT.com ON 98-2001 BMW K1200RS
First and perhaps most importantly, the reason this kit is one of the best out there is customer serv- ice. If you’ve gotten this kit, or plan to get it, drop Steve a line info@XenonDepot.com or give him a call with any questions you may have. His knowledge of the product and concern for your satisfac- tion is unsurpassed and refreshing in an age where customer service usually involves 38 menus, and unknowledgeable agents. Now, on with the install.........
The installation process for this is pretty straight forward. The Xtreme Motorcycle HID Conversion Kit comes pre-wired with a relay, all the connections for battery, ground and, unlike some other kits on the market, has shielded ignitor and ballast to eliminate any interference with your electronics. The challenge with any custom install is fitting it to your application. This kit is no different. The fol- lowing set of instructions will briefly give you some suggestions on how to mount this kit on 98-2001 BMW K1200RS’.
Installation time expect 2-4 hours depending on your attention to detail and extent of fairing removal.
Step 1: You will first need to pull the front headlight housing off including the windshield and headlight sur- round. Here is a link that explains step by step how to do so: http://gunsmoke.com/motorcycling/k1200rs/fairing/index.html (Skip to page 4).
This is what you should have to start with:

Step 2: Take headlight housing and set on soft towel with headlight facing down (Pic A). Remove black back cover by pushing down on wire that goes across the back. (Pic B).

Step 3: With the black cover in hand, you now have 3 wires to run through the back. Two of the plugs go into the bulb. The third is the wire with the good sized black plug on it. (Pic A) The wire that this plugs in to is on the back of the headlight. I recommend pulling the wires out of the plug to keep the hole you will have to drill small. To do this, you will have to take the plug in hand and with a small screwdriver push on the tabs that hold the wires inside the plug and slide them out. (Pic B)

Step 4: Using a rubber grommet from your local auto parts store determine the total diameter of your three wires to choose the right grommet for your application. (Sorry to be vague but I had this one sitting around so I’m not sure on part # (Pic A). After finding the right grommet, drill around the word” top” about middle using the proper size bit (Pic B). Next, run the wires through and push in grommet (Pic C). You can now snap the wires you pulled out of the black plug back into the black plug.

Step 5: Install the bulb. Be careful not to touch the bulb. IMPORTANT! Make sure to install the bulb into the housing making sure that the little black rod that sits on the side of the glass bulb is on top. (If you install this at the bottom, you will have a shadow in the beam) Now, take a breath, and take a look at the clips that hold the bulb in place. You will see that the HID bulb does not have the all around crevasse that the stock one did. Instead it has crevasses on the left and right and you need them on top and bottom. This is not a big deal. Just lightly bend the bulb retaining clips downward to meet the hooks on the back of the headlight housing.
That is pretty much it for “fitting it to your application.” The rest is simple.
Re-install back headlight cover.
Before setting headlight and housing back on bike you will need to find space to mount the ballast, ignitor, and relay along with all the wire tied into it. There is no right or wrong here. Think it through and consider weather protection, space to be able to remove the back headlight cover to change the bulb in the future if needed, hot engine parts, etc etc. ( Get some zip ties ready)
Attach ground screw to a good ground. I used the headlight housing frame (see pic) Run power wire to battery. Turn on power to make sure it works. Reinstall headlight and housing and all other tuperware in reverse order of disassembly.
